Biologist - Tissue Culture & Radioligand Binding Assays - NIH - Rockville, MD

We are currently seeking a BIOLOGIST to work with the National Institutes of Health in Rockville, MD.

TASKS/SERVICES: The contractor shall:
  • Perform a variety of biochemical techniques and procedures using RADIOANALYTICAL methods with TRACER methodology.
  • Develop new methods for and collect, analyze, organize and record experimental data appropriate for publication and future reference by others.
  • Maintain complete, detailed records of all experiments performed.
  • Recreate experiments describing protocols, methods and procedures used; obtain summaries of data; describe any problems or unusual situations encountered in carrying out the experiments.
  • Write technical reports; interpret findings; summarize conclusions; prepare data in final form for publication in scientific journals.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
  • Conduct inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Work with staff on managing the laboratory budget.
  • Participate in planning for future equipment and personnel needs.
  • Provide technical training, direction and advice to chemists, technicians and other staff on the methods and procedures used in the laboratory.
  • Provide cross-training to peers in areas of expertise.
  • Work with staff and provide advice to analysts on analytical instrumentation and data interpretation involving unusual or highly complex projects.
  • Ensure that laboratory equipment is available as needed, properly calibrated and in good working order.
  • Perform preventive maintenance; make repairs or arrange for service.
  • Review and recommend new equipment; schedule demonstrations; initiate procurement.
  • Coordinate installation and training for new equipment.
  • Practice and maintain safe laboratory practices and hazardous materials handling.
  • Maintain records of hazardous materials and disposal in accordance with requirements.
  • Ensure compliance by all staff and laboratory.
  • Ensure that guidelines and protocols are up to date; coordinate inventory and safety checks with the appropriate safety divisions.

  • REQUIREMENTS: The contractor ideally would have:
    (1) Master's or Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology, Radiochemistry, or a related disciple.
    (2) Minimum of three (3) years of experience with TISSUE CULTURE (immortalized cell lines and in vitro assays: RADIOLIGAND BINDING ASSAYS (saturation, competition, immunoreactivity determination).
    (3) Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    (4) Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
    (5) Strong inter-personal and teamwork skills.
