Salary Information

Weekly Rate: $614.50 - $1483.00


Connecting, disconnecting, reconnecting, testing, repairing, maintaining, installing, rearranging company and customer provided telephones and equipment, inside wiring, and wires at poles, underground or building terminals. Working in various buildings and surroundings, including roofs, backyards, attics, basements, crawl spaces, etc. Climbing poles and ladders, and working aloft.


Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
A. Receives work assignments and trouble cases from designated employees or laptop computer.
B. Installing, rearranging, and maintaining inside wiring.
C. Rearranging and reconnecting fiber optic and/or associated copper wiring at pole, underground or building terminals.
D. Performing necessary work to connect, disconnect, test, repair and maintain various types of company and customer provided telephones and equipment.
E. Configuring customers' computer and equipment.
F. Works with fiber optics services and equipment including installation and repair.
G. Works on DSL (digital subscriber line).
H. Performing diagnostic tests on integrated circuit equipment to determine trouble.
I. Interpreting service orders and circuit diagrams.
J. Keeping detailed written record of all work activity.
K. Evaluating customer communication needs and promoting the sale of Company products and services, and referring customers to the appropriate office.
L. Communicating frequently with customers on matters dealing with service, planning, billing, and Company policy.
M. Works aloft; climbs ladders and poles; enter tunnels, buildings, trenches, crawl spaces, manholes, and other confined spaces to accomplish job tasks.
N. May perform light digging.
O. May be required to stand or sit for long periods of time.
P. May work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Q. Wears appropriate safety equipment as required. May be required to work in presence of hazardous materials.
R. Normally works and travels alone between work locations by driving Company vehicles with little or no direct supervision.
S. May perform Combined Job Function (CJF) duties which include installing, maintaining, and collection of coin telephones at remote locations.
T. Responsible for arranging work load and dealing directly with the appropriate center.
U. Identifying and meeting individual customer requirements on provisioning and/or repair contacts.
V. May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.


A. Tests - Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.
B. Must meet Verizon medical standards for the job. Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors. Must meet weight restriction to comply with OSHA/Company safety standards.
C. Ability to move and/or lift items such as ladders, tools, cable, test equipment and other objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
D. Must meet applicable federal and state standards for operating the size vehicles covered by this job title.
E. Where a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, the applicant will receive related, Company-provided Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) training. Upon completion of D.O.T. training, the applicant must qualify on D.O.T.'s Commercial Driver's License written and skills qualifications tests in order to be retained in the job.
F. Must be able to communicate effectively with customers.
G. Must be available to work scheduled tours designated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or the needs of the business. Associates may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as the needs of the business necessitate. Non-scheduled days will be required as needs of the business necessitate.
H. A valid state driver's license is required satisfactory driving record. Must have ability to drive vehicle with manual gearshift and read and interpret road maps. Where a Commercial Driver's License is required, the applicant must pass an alcohol and drug test.
I. Security background investigation may be required.
J. Must write legibly and accurately and perform basic math accurately.
K. Job site visits will generally be granted only where a contractual obligation exists.
