The Sensor Modeling and Simulation Department (SMSD) seeks a Python Developer Undergraduate intern for developing Python code to provide an interface between Aerospace's image chain modeling tool, PICASSO, and industry standard optics codes Zemax and Code-V. The project will be guided by SMSD staff located at the Chantilly, VA campus.


* Participates with an interdisciplinary team in ongoing research or technical programs with academic collaboration partners.

* Applies standard techniques and procedures to carry out a series of prescribed scientific and/or engineering tasks

* Training and mentorship will be provided.

Required Qualifications:

* Currently enrolled at an accredited college/university degree program pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Physical Science, Engineering, Remote Sensing or related field.

* Completion of sophomore year of undergraduate study

* Scientific programming experience in Python.

* Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) and work in a team environment.

* Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

* Minimum GPA 3.0

* Must be able to obtain a security clearance

* US Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

* Active security clearance

* GPA 3.5 or higer

* Experience or interest in optical modeling with Code-V or Zemax.

* Experience or interest in IDL programming.
